Couples Getaway: The Best Glamping in Washington State
This past weekend, I surprised my husband with our first kid-free getaway since having kids almost 4 years ago! It was an early birthday present for him, and it’s definitely one of our favorite trips we’ve ever been on. It ranks right up there with our St. Croix wedding anniversary trip (you can read about that trip here). This was the perfect couples getaway, and the best glamping site in Washington that I came across. We will definitely be returning!
What is glamping?
The term “glamping” comes from combining the two words “glamorous” and “camping”. It’s a camping experience with way more than the basic tent and sleeping bag options.
Where is this glampsite located?
The glamping site is located on Whidbey Island, WA, around the center of the island. It’s about 1.5 hours from downtown Seattle, if you take the ferry over to Whidbey. The other option is to skip the ferry and drive an extra hour up and around through Anacortes. The nice thing about skipping the ferry is that you can go through Deception Pass and stop at the State Park for a hike or picnic lunch on the beach. There’s also a very popular restaurant called The Shrimp Shack if you take the route through Deception Pass. The line was wrapped around the building when we went, which I’ve been told is normal. So, the food must be worth it.
Our glamping site
I’ve had this trip booked for a couple months and was so excited that the weekend finally came for us to go! The pictures online of this site are beautiful, but it’s even better in person, which doesn’t happen often with rentals. We pulled up and parked in the designated parking spots and were greeted right away by Ron and Denise, the owners of the property. Ron was getting the fire going for the night and they showed us around the property. It includes a tiki bar (BYOB), two fully furnished safari tents, a fire pit, an outdoor dining area, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, an amazing outdoor shower, a bathroom “shed” with a toilet and a sink, a little yoga deck, plenty of yard and board game options, and a fire pit, all in an open field area surrounded by nature.
They also have a beautiful garden full of vegetables and flowers, and a chicken coup on the property that you can walk around while exploring the site. We woke up in the morning to the sound of the birds and forest surrounding our tent, which I imagine is how Snow White wakes up every morning. The entire site was so clean and well taken care of. We can’t wait to go back!

More about the property
The owners live in their yellow house on the 3 acre property as well, but there’s a lot of trees and bushes blocking the view of the house from the glampsite. So you really do feel like you have the whole place to yourself, but if you have any questions or need anything, they’re just a text or call away.
Denise and Ron have truly thought of everything you might need. From everything in the kitchen you need to cook a perfect meal (just bring your own food, of course) to bluetooth speakers around the property to connect to, to extra blankets to use by the fire if it’s a colder night. They even gave us some fresh eggs from their chickens to use for breakfast, and a little s’mores kit to make s’mores on the fire.
They’ve only offered glamping full time for about a year now. They originally started it after hosting their daughter’s wedding on their property, which Ron went full dad-mode and built the amazing tiki bar and many other pieces for. After the wedding, people said they wanted to stay there with friends, so they added another tent and their glamping listing went live. They are only open from May – September, thanks to our cold and rainy Pacific Northwest weather the rest of the year. They said after the season, they spend a whole month taking everything down to clean and store it inside for the winter and spring. Then, in March, they star the 2 month process of taking everything out of storage and setting it back up for the summer.
About the owners
Throughout the year, Ron and Denise use their on-site workshop to create a board game called Pegs and Jokers (also called Marbles and Jokers) that they sell online throughout the year. If you’re interested in supported a small, local business, you can buy their game on their website, here. You can tell they love games, aside from making their own boardgame, they also have plenty of games on the property to keep you busy and entertained. We played giant Jenga and corn hole, but there were at least a dozen other games on hand.
This glampsite has a listing on Glamping Hub and AirBnB. I happened to find it on Glamping Hub first though, so we booked through there and it was a very easy process! If you’re new to AirBnB, you can use my personal link (click here) to receive $35 off your first rental!
