How To Make A Lingerie Cake
This Wedding Wednesday is more of a DIY/how-to for bachelorette parties, bridal showers, or a lingerie shower. A few weeks ago I made a lingerie cake (for the first time) for my friend’s bachelorette party (you can see pics from the weekend here). It was a lot of fun to make and not as difficult as I thought it might be, but it did take a couple hours the night before the party! Here’s how I did it:
This cake used a total of 5 boxes of cake and 6 tubs of icing. (Because I was making so much cake, I actually bought the bulk package of eggs at Publix for the first time ever because it comes with 30 eggs!)
First, I baked two 18in long sheet cakes, using 2 boxes of cake each and a round cake using the Wilton ball mold (I got mine at Jo Ann Fabrics but I’m sure Michaels has them too) which only used 1 box of cake. After they were cooked and cooled, I put them together. One thing I realized after the fact was that I should have stacked the sheet cakes top-to-top, that way it would have been a flat/smooth surface to spread the icing on easier; lesson learned. Then I cut the flat side of the ball cakes so they would be flat and put a glob of icing on each before attaching it to the rest of the cake.
Next, I cut the cake into it’s lingerie shape. I tried to put together a little diagram of where to cut because I forgot to get a picture of how I cut the “boobs”. The pink parts are what will be cut off of the cake.
Finally, I iced the cake and it was ready to go! I only had a short period of time to ice it so that’s why it looks a little sloppier than I would have liked.
I don’t think I did too bad for my first attempt. And, I definitely plan on making this again next time there’s a lingerie shower or bachelorette party I’m going to! If you decide to make this cake for an upcoming event you’re going to, I would LOVE to see how it turns out!
xx,
Kirsten
