My Favorite Wedding Footwear
Happy Wedding Wednesday/Hump Day to everyone!
Today I want to talk about some of my favorite shoes for walking down the aisle. There’s so many different options out there, so if you’re getting married soon, maybe this will help you make some decisions!
Comfy
I personally wore Chuck Taylor’s on my wedding day, in mint, of course! They were so incredibly comfortable to wear for 8+ hours, especially between getting up and sitting down and walking all around for pictures and greeting our guests. There’s also so many ways to wear the Converse: You could have them embroidered with your new monogram on the tongue, you could have your wedding date embroidered on the side, you could bedazzle part or all of the shoe, etc.
Flat shoes are also a good alternative if you don’t have much of a height difference with your significant other and you don’t want to be taller than him in pictures.
Sandals and Flats
Living in Florida my whole life, I wear sandals year round, so I thought it might be appropriate to wear them for our wedding. I found several cute pairs that I liked, but ended up going with the mint Chuck Taylors instead. I think sandals would be great for a beach wedding, obviously, or if they fit the theme. Flats, like ballet slippers, are on the same level for me as sandals. I love them, and they remind me of what a princess might wear with her wedding gown (if she isn’t in heels). Be sure to check the bottom of the sandals though and make sure they have some traction on them, especially if you have a long dress, you don’t want to accidentally slip on a slick floor or your own dress!
Designer
When in doubt, some designer heels are always a great go-to option to walk down the aisle, they’re guaranteed to be gorgeous and photogenic. My personal favorite is Louboutins, but there’s a lot of designer heels that are extra showy and look like they were made for a princess, which is exactly how you should feel on your wedding day. Make sure you break them in by wearing them around the house a few times before your wedding day. You definitely don’t want to wear them for the first time on your big day, your feet will be dying before the ceremony is even over!
No Shoes
If it works for your venue, I love the idea of not wearing shoes! There’s so many different options – lace, crocheted, jewels, etc. It would work really well for beach wedding ceremonies and receptions. I wouldn’t necessarily want to walk around most indoor reception venues barefoot, there’s always that crazy aunt that drops her wine glass, so it might not be safe, and your feet would get so dirty. Yuck! These barefoot sandals are probably your most comfortable option out of all of the shoes in this post, and potentially the cheapest as well. I bet this would be an easy DIY too!
Try mixing it up and don’t go with the typical white shoes, add some color or sparkle, it will make the pictures fun. You should be comfortable in what you’re wearing, and remember that you will be doing a lot of standing and walking around, unless you have someone carrying you around on a throne all day, of course. Don’t feel like you have to wear expensive shoes just because it’s a wedding; and don’t fret too much over the shoes, almost all of our guests didn’t even know what my shoes looked like until the garter removal. So, I’m glad I didn’t spend a fortune on shoes that no one else would have even appreciated.
What are you wearing to walk down the aisle on your big day? Or, what did you wear? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
xx,
