Visiting Snoqualmie Falls
Our first official weekend in Seattle was filled with exploring. The weather has been beautiful, which apparently isn’t the norm this time of year, but I’ll take it while I can. So we drove about 30 minutes outside the city to the tiny town of Snoqualmie, which was decorated for Christmas and looked like it was taken straight out of a Hallmark movie. It’s so cool that we are living in a big city but we’re still just a short drive away from a small town that’s Main Street is less than a mile long.
First we hiked down to Snoqualmie Falls, and it was a pretty easy hike; definitely easier going down than it was going up, of course. And it took much longer with kids, especially a toddler that insists on walking all the time… and by “walking” I mean stopping every 3 steps to pick up rocks and take 5 steps backwards 😂 When we got to the lowest viewing point of the falls, we saw another parking lot, that we’ll definitely be utilizing next time. The falls are right next to a power plant. There’s lots of informational signage along the hike about this and the history of the falls, but to be totally honest, we didn’t have time to read them while chasing a toddler. Lol.
After the hike, we drove 5 minutes into town where we walked around the shops and grabbed lunch at Cafe Minee. I had decent turkey, cranberry, cream cheese sandwich, followed by a super delish cream cheese macaron. Snoqualmie has several cute stores and little restaurants. K loved one of the first shops on the street that was full of Christmas decor. And there was one shop called Heirloom Cookshop, and it looked like all they do is cooking classes/workshops. They had a list on the wall of upcoming workshops that ranged from holiday meals to beer brewing. I’ve never heard of a place like this that just does classes, but it was super cute and I plan on trying it out next time we are in the area and have extra time.
Snoqualmie is a great little spot for kids too! There’s also a small train museum area where you can walk around and look at the trains. They even have a holiday event called Santa Train where you can go for a train ride and meet Santa. The website says they also do other themed train rides, like Halloween and a wine one (*winkwink*). When you first get on Railroad Avenue, there’s a “train graveyard” with old broken down trains. I wanted to go walk around, but it was nap time and the kids were getting a little crazy. So, we’ll have to check that out next time. They also have some cool historic monument-type of things around town with informational signs giving the backstory on what you’re looking at.
I think Snoqualmie will be a cute little area to take guests to when they come out to visit us, especially if they want to do a short hike to a waterfall… or park right at the bottom so it’s even shorter. Lol. It was a fun half-day trip, that could definitely be stretched into a full day trip. We’re so excited to do see more of what Washington has to offer.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
XO,
Kirsten
